Rita is a Barton-certified dyslexia assessment specialist and can accurately diagnose dyslexia in children 5 years of age and older, up through adulthood. Her diagnostic report will also document the student's need for a 504 plan, and will list exactly which classroom accommodations are needed to ensure educational success.
Rita also provides educational therapy services to children and adults with dyslexia using the Barton Reading and Spelling System, which is an Orton-Gillingham program. Orton-Gillingham programs are considered researched-based, best practices, for a dyslexic. She also uses the Lindamood-Bell LiPS program to teach phonemic awareness and sequencing, if the student is not yet ready for an Orton-Gillingham program. If young student needs handwriting intervention, Rita will use either the Handwriting without Tears, or Slingerland cursive writing methodology. In her experience, these programs appear best suited for individuals having dyslexia.
Rita is also available to give presentations about dyslexia to schools or other groups who want to learn more about this specific type of learning disability.
